Reintroducing People to Their Creator.
We are a team of disciples using the shofar to evangelize the area with the Word and voice of God. (We reach out with the Word to the unsaved and the saved alike).
God has been using the Shofar (and those who sound it) to call His people, instruct His people, and relate to His people throughout the history of creation.
We compare the Acts 2 model of evangelism (where the Word was shared with those already understanding concepts like “God” “Creator” “laws” “sin”) with the Acts 17 model (where the Word was communicated to a polytheistic society not understanding or even rejecting those same concepts. The Result is a form of evangelism that starts with the foundation of a Creator over all and His plan for His creation (allowing for greater receptivity from the hearer and making greater progress planting seeds of the Gospel). Many do get saved after discussions, Q&A, and prayer. The difference is understanding where the other person is in their faith or lack thereof and meeting them there instead of demanding repentance for sins they will insist don’t even exist and losing their receptivity from first sentence.
“then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head. Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves. But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.” Ezek 33:4-6
The watchmen are called to
- bring His people together
- lead the worship
- lead the attack or defense
- warn His people of danger
- call His people to repentance
We witness to all with the embodiment of 1 Pet 3:15
“having an answer ready for the faith within us with gentleness and respect”
“I will set watchmen over you, saying, ‘listen to the sound of the shofar!” … ” – Jer 6:17
I have found (s0 far) nine distinct uses for the call of the shofar in the bible.
1. call to assemble (Num 10:2-3)
2. give direction (Num 10:6)
3. call to battle (Num 10:9, Josh 6:5)
4. call to worship (Num 10:10, Ps 98:4-6)
5. blown in His presence (2 Sam 6:15, 1 Chron 16:4,6)
6. coronation of kings (1 King 1:39)
7. call to consecration (Joel 1:14, 2:15-16)
8. announce God’s judgement (Joel 2:1, Rev 8:10)
9. herald the coming of the Lord
(Rev 11:15, 1 Thess 4:16-18, 1 Cor 15:52)
As shofar blowers, ask yourselves “which of these does He command of me right now to blow?”
